Fun Activities to do with Your kids in the Holiday Season

I strongly believe that, the last week of December is indeed the most wonderful time of the year and I ensure my family feels it. Most jobs and schools get these last days of the year off and the family is mostly together. What better time to enjoy each other when everyone is less busy and on vacation!

Shopping

With the many activities in the holiday season, taking a trip to the store is much needed! Take the kids cloth shopping for the many events you plan to do. Such as school end of year party clothing, visiting family and friends, presents for teachers and bus drivers, baby sitters, etc

Buy Christmas tree:

We are a big fun of Christmas and we ensure our kids gets the best memories. This season is a magical time to create memories with your children, nieces, nephews or grandchildren. Buying the Christmas tree is a whole family affair that the whole family take part. Set a day to pick up our tree and buy the needed decorations. Our favorite place to buy these is the dollar tree and dollar stores. You get everything you need at an affordable prices.

Decorate

We usually decorate and light up our tree on Saturday after thanksgiving. Everybody takes part in this. We put on our matching pajamas after dinner and bring out our tree and decors.

Buy and wrap presents

We buy gifts for kid’s teachers, family and friends.

This is a whole day activity which the kids love to do. We will sit and group the presents. Decorate them and have the kids write beautiful individualized personal notes to their teachers. We then wrap them in beautiful well selected wrappers and put them in bags. This keeps the kids engaged throughout the day.

Cookies, Food and Drinks.

Do you already have an idea on what you plan on preparing in terms of food? I recommend you shop for what kind of food you plan on cooking, or baking on the last week of the year. We have made it a point to bake something new every year and this year, we plan on making holiday colorful cookies. We will be making everything from scratch and when it is ready, we will decorate with all the icing and colors we bought. You may want to try this as well.

We also decorate a ginger bread house with the whole family. One of the holiday activities the kids absolutely love is shopping for and decorating a ginger bread house. What makes it exciting is finally getting the chance to eat the house as well. Most of the bakery sections of grocery stores have a ginger bread house.

Sight seeing

Last year we went to the city to see the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller center! We went to see beautiful decorations in Manhattan. We took several pictures, enjoyed some food, dance in the crowd, and came back home exhausted!

Holiday Pyjamas Christmas Eve Singing

We have several family pajamas that, in the few days leading to Christmas we wear. We will wear the latest for the year on the Christmas eve. We take uncountable loads of family pictures.

Make hot coco with marshmallows and some chocolates and cookies.

We take turns to sing Christmas songs, dance, rate and play games

Christmas Day

What are your Christmas day activities? On the morning of the Christmas day, we unbox our presents from santa! We tell each other how we love our presents, why we asked Santa for those presents and what we intend to do with it. We also say how much we are grateful as a family.

We visit friends and family at a Christmas party later in the day!

We will come back home, take a few minutes of rest and then prepare for dinner with more of our family and friends.

Boxing day

Our boxing day is a solo day where we plan on resting! Lets face it, the planning, the running around, the last minute gift and food preparation exhaust everyone and we have chosen this day to rest!

In the evening, we will buid a ginger bread house, sing more and take more pictures

Count Down

It is always fun to do the count-down with somebody and I am grateful my children are up for it.

For us, we wait for next year by staying up late and join the count down.

If your children are small and cannot stay till next year, you can always make a mock one with them. In fact, a colleague of mine at work said the family put up the previous year countdown and edit in the upcoming year.
