The NDC made a smart decision by electing tried and tested people into their leadership positions to lead them to the next elections.
The election of Mr Asiedu Nketia as their party Chairman and Honorable Fifi Kwartey as the general secretary should send some fears down the spine of the NPP and pretending otherwise is a recipe for disaster.
It is therefore incumbent on the NPP to devise smart strategies to outsmart these radical folks.
It is important the NPP recognizes the strengths of these party militants to be able to put forth pragmatic measures to set the facts as they are. The usual act of the NPP trying to rubbish the strength of their opponents has always been their Achilles hill.
Let’s face it, if you put the leaders of these two parties’ side by side, one can see that the NDC carries the spirited team. The NDC can now boost of experienced politicians who understands the dynamics of the Ghanaian politics.
These two individuals drive conversations heavily and they deliberately try to remain in the news far longer than any person. The general of the Ghanaian politics has been around for a very long time and has been the torn in the flesh of the NPP for several years and he continuous to be even till today.
His infamous description of the seventeen aspirants as seventeen thieves remained a dent on the party and forced the party to even make some amendments to their election of flagbearers.
He’s been the longest serving secretary of any political party. I believe he’s the only person who has been able to be elected more than twice in the role as General Secretary. He is well experienced and has all the credentials of a politician.
He has been at the forefront of the party and has risen through the ranks and therefore understands elections and rules of government. He is also a communicator who has been seen on radio and tv defending his party since politics came to stay in Ghana. He’s not afraid to say it as it is or who it is.
The NPP chairman is not the vocal one as we know him, and no one expect him to be speaking on behalf of the party but he is an experienced politician who has worked behind the scene for his party both in opposition and in government. After decades of contesting to be chairman, I hope he is poised to maintain power for the ruling party. I sincerely hope, he will be able to match Mr. Asiedu Nketia.
I am still sure the NPP has not forgotten how Fifi dragged their then presidential candidate and now president of the republic, H.E Nana Addo and the amount of lies he churned out against president Kufour and his then ministers through his misinformation setting the records straight forum.
There is no denying the fact that, Fifi and Asiedu Nketia together won the NDC the 2008 elections and the two coming together again is something that should scare the NPP.
One limitation of Fifi is that he speaks only Ewe and most Ghanaians may not understand him. But this was not an issue in 2008 and it certainly will not be an issue in 2023 and beyond. It will be disastrous for the NPP to dwell on this.
It however appears Honorable Fifi has devised another strategy of strategizing from the bench by sending out his people and staying behind to coach. Therefore, it is important for the NPP to always have its communicators handy and ready to counter. It is paramount on the NPP to neutralize his venom with all the force it can muster.
Here is what the NPP can/ should do
- His youthful exuberance has waned.
Honorable Fifi Kwetey has become sober likewise Asiedu Nketia as we have all witnessed since they were both elected, and the energy and the portrayal of anger is no longer visible. NPP must take advantage of this and use their youthful and energetic General secretary, John Kodua to match him boot for boot.
The General secretary of NPP John Kodua is a great communicator, and I am sure he will give them a run for their money.
2. The NPP this time around should not sit back and take in every lie he channels out and think that, the descending electorate will not buy into it. Irrespective of how absurd they think whatever they say is, there must be a very strong offensive response with all the seriousness they can muster.
3. The NDC act of playing on the emotions of the Ghanaian people must not be tolerated. The communicators, like Dennis Miracles must be sensitized to take them on with the facts.
4. The NPP must also ensure that wherever he puts up a press conference or go on any media platform, there is a response readily available. In politics, anticipating your opponent’s next move and preparing to counter is how you win. Allowing their propaganda to fester before coming out to respond will be dangerous.
The NPP must readily respond within the shortest possible time, in fact there must be a team on hand with answers ready for any anticipated presser they intend to release.
5. NPP must ensure any news portal that decides to carry any story from their opponent must equally carry a response from the NPP. In fact, those two stories must be run side by side.
As it stands now, there is no alternative. The NPP’s continuous stay in power is the best for the country Ghana and we must all be on deck to support the party to implement the policies that is beneficial to the people. Like I always say, it’s that simple, do not let anyone confuse you.
